I had the opportunity to interview recently this beauty. I appreciate her sharing her story. I hope you will enjoy this interview!
Congratulations for being a finalist of Miss World Philippines. How do you feel ?
Beyond happiness and excitement, I feel extremely grateful. Really grateful to be given the opportunity to get a step closer to my dreams and to learn from an organization that embodies a Mission and Vision that I respect.
What do you think about the pressure of being a beauty queen in your country ?
I've always seen pressure as a positive aspect in life, without it I don't think there would be that much desire to beat the odds or achieve something unexpected/revolutionary. That's just one of my mantra's in life, that we always have a choice. We can either choose to see things positively or negatively, and both require the same effort. The pressure that our country is facing drives and fuels me to attain more. Besides, it is something to be proud of, and it would only become a true honor to be in that position where you represent your whole nation.
Pia Wurtzbach is definitely one of the most famous beauty queen in the world. As a pageant girl, is she a role model for you ?
Absolutely! Pia Wurtzbach is a beautiful story of perseverance, faith, determination and hard work that we can all learn from. She is someone I definitely look up to! When I began this journey, I had a lot of doubters who didn't believe in me. I trained independently with the help of some mentors I keep close to my heart. Children need to see that effort is only determined by one's self and no one else and that there is always room for improvement. Her story makes me believe that the same can happen to me as long as I give my best and stay on course, there's is nothing impossible and no dream is ever too big. So boys and girls, do not let anyone take away your dream from you.
You choose to compete in the Miss World system, why this one and not the system for Miss Universe (Binibining Pilipinas) ?
I have gravitated towards Miss World ever since I was a little girl. Our past Miss World queens are some of the women that I have idolized like Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, our very own Megan Young and many more. Their beauty with a purpose is what compels me the most because their values are also my core values. I believe in women of substance, beauty from within and such compelling elegance. The Miss World Organization has changed many lives for the better and what a privilege it is to work with them.
What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry ?
Oh, there's so much lesson to gain from this experience for sure! The camaraderie/friendships, confidence, getting to know myself better and what I am capable of. But above all, I am expecting that this pageant will foray me into the film industry. As a Filipina, I wish to star in films on a global scale and show the world that Filipinos are worthy of recognition and are world-class talents.
What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the competition?
I would probably say that what sets me apart from the rest is maturity. I am an old-soul and very well understand that beauty is a responsibility. That the true purpose of being a beauty queen is to serve others and be of good use that goes well beyond a crown on the top of your head. And that a life lived without compassion to those who are less fortunate is empty and purposeless. This is why I am here, our world needs, an inspiration to our children of the future to be sensitized to those who are suffering.
What qualities a woman should have to represent a whole nation?
I got into this beauty pageant because I've fallen in love with it's power of not having to stereotype yourself and compare yourself with anyone, and that the only person you should become is the best version of yourself. So a woman that is grounded, confident enough not to be defined by her race, color, etc, and someone relatable are the qualities a woman should have to be deserving of representing a whole nation. I believe that it is with these 3 essential qualities that you are most aware of yourself and your surroundings that will radiate confidence throughout the whole world.
Thanks to the beautiful Rose for the interview. Pageants News wishes you all the very best for Miss World Philippines pageant.
