Who is Kara McCullough ?
Kara was born in Naples, Italy but she also also lived in Sicily, Japan, South Korea & Hawaii, which she feels has helped her learn about the world and taught her how to respect and appreciate all the people around her, no matter their color or religion.
She graduated from South Carolina University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
She is a scientist at the United States Nuclear Regulatory commission. She can teach you how to balance a chemical equation in 5 minutes.
Kara's mother is a retired United States Navy chief petty officer.
Miss District Of Columbia USA 2017 was her 5th pageant. There hasn't been back to back state winners since 1989. This is the first time D.C. has won back to back.
Aside from her beauty and body, Kara also wowed the judges with her answer at the Q&A portion of the pageant. During the Miss USA Pageant she was asked, "Do you think affordable healthcare for all US citizens is a right or a privilege and why?" MCCULLOUGH: I'm definitely going to say it's a privilege. As a government employee, I am granted healthcare and I see firsthand that for one to have healthcare you need to have jobs. So, therefore, we need to continue to cultivate this environment that we're given the opportunity to have healthcare as well as jobs to all the American citizens worldwide.
What do you consider feminism to be, and do you consider yourself a feminist?
MCCULLOUGH: So, as a woman scientist in the government, I've liked to lately transpose the word feminism to equalism. I don't really want to consider myself… I try not to consider myself like this like die hard, you know, like, "oh i don't really care about men..." But one thing I'm going to say is, though, women we are just as equal to men when it comes opportunity in the workplace. And I say firsthand, I have witnessed the impact that women have in leadership in the medical sciences as well as just in the office environment. So as Miss USA I would hope to promote that type of leadership responsibility globally to so many women worldwide.
