You will compete at the Miss Universe Canada Pageant. How will you prepare the contest ?
Preparing for Miss Universe Canada takes a lot of focus and dedication. I previously competed in this competition in 2013, and through that experience, I was able to see firsthand how disciplined the competitors are. Aside from the preparation that goes into being swimsuit-ready and mentally sharp for the interview portion, each delegate is responsible for fundraising for the pageant's official charity; Operation Smile. Over the last few months, I have been working on a service project in support of Operation Smile and I will continue to fundraise to provide cleft palate surgeries for children in need.
We are all unique so what would you say is something that makes you stand out from the other contestants?
I think that what makes me stand out from the other contestants is my work ethic. Every delegate in this competition is extraordinary and beautiful, but what makes a candidate really shine is their willingness to work. The woman who wins will be working with the official charity, and will also be a leader and mentor in their community. I see this title as much more than just a crown and sash, and I feel that my ambition and drive are the tools that have gotten me this far!
What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants? What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry?
The greatest takeaway from competing in the Miss Universe Canada system has been the mentorship that I've received from my peers and fellow competitors. I've been able to learn from so many fantastic women and I think that has really accelerated my personal growth. I hope that through this experience, I will continue to improve and work toward being the most confident version of myself!
What's the best one word to describe Canada ? What is your favorite thing to do in your country ?
The best word that I can think of to describe Canada, is community. There is such a strong comradery and sense of community in this country. We really do support and help each other and that's what makes me most proud to be Canadian. I love traveling around Canada and meeting new people because the reception is always so warm!
Who is your ideal beauty queen and how has she helped you to evolve as a beauty queen?
One of my favourite beauty queens right now is Deshauna Barber, Miss USA 2016. I think that she is absolutely stunning, but her courage and spirit are what make her really shine. When she wore her natural afro during her final walk at the Miss USA pageant, I was so excited to see someone send the message that you don't have to try to fit into society's limited beauty ideals. She really inspired me to embrace my natural beauty and to be confident in who I am, regardless of whether or not that fits the status quo.
Thanks to the beautiful Katherine for the interview. Pageants News wishes you all the very best for Miss Canada Universe pageant.
