Here's why Rachel Peters of the Philippines can be Miss Universe 2017

The Miss Universe Philippines 2017's crown went to Fil-Brit beauty queen Rachel Peters. The beauty queen said that she is more than ready to start training for the upcoming Miss Universe 2017 competition and represent the Philippines proudly in the international pageant scene.

Rachel, 25, is now tasked with continuing the country's winning streak, after Pia Wurtzbach's historic winn 2015 and Maxine Medina's top 6 finish in the 2016 competition.

Who is Rachel Peters ?

She is an event organizer who has worked with international artists such as Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera.

She was previously crowned 4th Princess in the Miss World Philippines pageant in 2014.

Rachel grew up in many different countries, which she feels has helped her learn about the world and taught her how to respect and appreciate all the people around her, no matter their color or religion.

Aside from her beauty and body, Rachel also wowed the judges with her answer at the Q&A portion of the pageant. During the Miss Universe Philippines Pageant she was asked, "If you were invited to speak [in the ASEAN Summit,] what would have been your message to the leaders?"

"I believe that one of our biggest problems that our country faces today is divisiveness—in politics, in religion, and also in culture. And I believe that is something that is the same across the world. That is something that I want to address. I believe that when people could learn to tolerate each other’s differences and respect each other’s opinions then we will be a stronger nation and world," she answered.

She realized that she wanted to become a beauty queen when she went back to the Philippines after obtaining her double degree in college in Australia.

When she joined the Binibining Pilipinas Contest, Peters said she had really set her eyes on winning the Miss Universe Philippines crown.

Just like the previous representatives of the country to the Miss Universe, Peters vowed to do her best to give pride and honor for the Philippines.

“I’m representing the Philippines and that’s a huge honor. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would have this opportunity. Following Pia (Wurtzbach) and Maxine (Medina), it’s a lot of pressure for me. I want to make the Philippines proud of course. I want this. I’m going to win,” she declared.
