You will compete at the Miss Universe GB Pageant, how will you prepare for the contest? What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the competition?
Miss Universe GB is one of the most prestigious pageants in our country and every woman dreams of walking on the amazing stage and winning the crown so as to then represent Great Britain at the internationals and hope to bring home the coveted Miss Universe crown.
This has been a dream for me as well, ever since I started competing in pageants in the ‘Teen’ category, 3 years back. This will be my first ever participation in the ‘Miss’ category and I am really excited for the same. I would like to thank the Miss Universe GB organisation for offering me this amazing opportunity. This is truly a great honour and a privilege for me and my family. I do know that the challenges involved in the Miss category are far different from the ones in the Teen category and I have started to diligently prepare for the same.
As with every pageant, the emphasis is on an individual as a person and as a human being. I have to be physically tough, have a balanced diet and at the same time, I have to have self- belief, be emotionally strong, humble and compassionate. I am a fitness enthusiast and despite challenges on account of travel to university and examination schedules, I have been working out at the gym and also doing pilates and yoga. Further, I will be attending the Pageant Training day shortly and hope to and hone my walking and interview skills.
Pageants have meant a lot to me over the years as they have given an opportunity for me to make life time friends and establish an amazing bond of sisterhood. At the same time, they offer great opportunities to be associated with various causes and charities and be able to give something back to the community, society and the world at large. I have been fortunate to have been previously associated with a few charities involving children from under privileged background and now it’s an honour to be part of A-sisterhood wherein I am able to work for some amazing causes related to women’s health, safety, security and empowerment, worldwide as well as animal care and wild life conservation. I am currently involved in a few fund raising events and hope to continue supporting the causes forever.
What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants?
Having followed pageants from a very young age, I was very much inspired by the fact that pageants offered every women a platform and an opportunity to showcase their true inner beauty, talent, knowledge, and understanding of real time issues and challenges that our community, society and the world face today and thereby aim to eliminate misconceptions about beauty pageants. Every pageant supports various causes and they range from women empowerment, social and humanitarian issues, healthcare, education, ecological issues, animal welfare etc. I would often read on such events and their causes which led to slowly build in me, a desire to do something similar which then got converted into a dream that, someday, I hope to make it a reality.
What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry?
Representing and winning the crown for my country will be a huge ambition and a dream come true. However, the ultimate prize will be the utmost satisfaction and immense sense of achievement that I will get by working on various causes pertaining to women empowerment and making a humble contribution towards the betterment of our society.
Social media seem to play a major role in pageantry nowadays. Do you think this is advantageous to you? Why or why not?
I think social media plays a major role in our entire life today. The key is to manage the same in the most effective manner. The approach has to be positive in all aspects, and should be considerate of people of all kinds and their sensibilities. The people and their opinions are the biggest influencers and we need to respect them. Also, our actions can have a big impact on other people’s lives and we need to be mindful of the same.
We’ve all seen the stereotypical portrayals of pageant contestants, a la Miss Congeniality, spreading peace, love and beauty throughout the world. How do you think you'll make a difference?
Pageant contestants have a genuine desire to do something for the community and the world. Their approach may differ and the results may vary. I can’t claim to be different than others. All I can say is that I would use every opportunity with honesty, dedication and commitment and work to the best of my abilities and resources available and hope to bring a smile on someone’s face and make a significant contribution towards the betterment of the society in my own humble way.
What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream of being a queen one day?
I am too young to offer any advice and I am still learning. However, all I can say is that only those dreams become a reality that are seen with eyes wide open - so one should keep dreaming at all times and keep working hard and hope for the best.
Who is your ideal beauty queen and why?
My ideal beauty queen should be Graceful, Humble and Inspiring. She should possess both inner and outer beauty and be full of positive attitude and energy. The ideal beauty queen should be humble and confident of herself and at the same time be compassionate about others. She has to be an inspiration and a role model for everyone and especially women across the universe.
Thanks to the beautiful Anjali for the interview. Pageants News wishes you all the very best for Miss Universe Great Britain pageant.
