2018 Miss South Carolina USA Candidate Sydney Long Wants To Be A Woman Of Impact

Women around the world are overcoming discrimination, prejudice and inequality to lead the way in creating a more equal world. While it’s thrilling to see the current energy and excitement around women’s rights and leadership, the reality is, women have been  doing amazing things, and making global contributions for centuries. And that is leadership: enabling positive change, inspiring action, addressing difficult issues, moving communities forward.

The gorgeous Sydney Long, who'll be competing for the crown of Miss South Carolina USA 2018, wants to inspire women and young girls all around the world - "Since competing in pageants my confidence, self-awareness, and desire to serve has increased. The older I get, the more I desire to be a woman that makes a difference in the world" - she explained.

Sydney would like to be more than a girl with a crown. The young lady would like to motivate other women to be influential in their own ways and make a difference.

I had the opportunity to interview her a few days before the Miss South Carolina USA Pageant. If she wins the crown she will have the opportunity to represent the state of South Carolina in Miss USA 2018

Did you know ? Miriam Stevenson, South Carolina's first Miss USA and the United States' first Miss Universe, was also the first Miss USA winner to have competed at Miss America. She was the first woman to have competed at Miss America, Miss USA, and Miss Universe. South Carolina's second Miss USA was Shawn Weatherly, who also went on to win Miss Universe.

You will compete at the Miss South Carolina USA; how will you prepare for the contest? What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the competition?

This will be my third time competing for the title of Miss South Carolina. I feel that I am more prepared than I’ve ever been. This year is different than the others because I am not “dieting”. I have made a lifestyle change with the way I eat and workout. I didn’t deprive myself from the food I love, but I ate in moderation. This year I am “fit for ME”.

I feel my determination is something unique I bring to the competition. In everything I do I strive to give 110%, and I believe that will be apparent to the judges on stage and in interview.

What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream to be a beauty queen one day ?

I would tell young girls not to give up when times get tough. When competing in pageantry you win a little and lose a lot. Learn something from every experience and find a cause that your passionate about that gives you a reason to get back on your feet when you get knocked down. It’s going to be a hard climb, but the view is well worth it.
