What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants ?
I am always trying to find new opportunities in life, and embark on new adventures. For me, taking the course of Beauty Pageants was always a lingering interest of mine. While growing up, my family and friends encouraged me to pursue the modelling industry, and though it took me quite some time. I inevitably got there. I inspired myself through motivation and determination to better myself, and take on a new opportunity that wasn’t just beneficial for myself, but also for others around me.
You describe yourself as a business owner, can you tell me more about this ?
I am the fulltime owner of ‘Beauty Basement’ which in an online ecommerce store that sells beauty products. My business aims to deliver quality products at affordable prices, as I believe quality doesn’t always have to have an expensive price tag. Currently, Beauty Basement is undergoing a clearance, as I am In the process of creating Beauty Basement’s very own beauty line.
Some people say that beauty pageants are degrading to women, same with fashion magazines. How can you convince them that they’re wrong ?
It’s not a matter of debating with people why you love and see the greatness in something. I believe you should always put yourself in the other persons shoes, to better understand from their perspective, and try to get them to do the same. Having first-hand experience to the pageant world, you can accurately relay what it is like, and share your own personal story and experiences to help them understand a bit more.
What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry ?
When going into pageants, I don’t focus too much on expectations, but instead I focus on making the best out of whatever situation is thrown at me, and ultimately enjoying my time while doing it. What I did gain from pageants, was confidence, friends, acceptance, and knowledge on real world problems. When I competed in Miss Global, and Miss Intercontinental Australia 2017 as a national finalist. I didn’t have much confidence, but coming out of it I not only got confidence, but also self-acceptance. What I do hope to gain as I venture further into pageantry, is a voice, a voice to be heard from not just me, but all of the girls who also use their knowledge, and beauty to promote the current and relevant issues around the world that we are passionate about, and want to help and make a change to.
What is your opinion about pageants that are being held worldwide for kids (-18 year old) ?
While competing in Miss Global, and Miss Intercontinental Australia 2017, we also had the ‘Australia’s Teen Queen’ finalists also competing under the same Director, Lucinda Ferguson. Being able to meet and spend time with these girls gave me great insight into the positive benefits of pageantry for young women, as it allows them to access greater knowledge, and promotes great self-confidence from a young, and crucial age. I believe pageantry for younger girls helps shape them to become beautiful, and smart women.
