What Being in a Pageant Taught Her - Meet Juanita Maldonado, candidate for the crown of Miss Globe United States

No matter how much or little experience you have in competing in pageants, you will gain valuable insight and knowledge about yourself and your mission by trying out as a contestant. Life is about discovering why you are here and how you can have a positive impact in the world and competing in a beauty contest will help you learn ways to share what you are passionate about and change lives in the process. "Being a pageant queen isn’t just about winning a crown. It is about making a promise to yourself and to the community." explained Juanita Maldonado, the reigning Miss Globe South Texas United States.

Juanita, who'll be competing in the Miss Globe United States Pageant later this year, is currently a Junior at The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley where she is studying Mass Communications with an emphasis on Broadcasting. Upon graduating college with her Bachelor’s degree, she plans to become a Sports Reporter and hopefully work for ESPN or Fox Sports one day. Lets know a little more about her through this interview!

You won the title of Miss Globe South Texas US 2017. What does it entail? What was the first thing that went through your mind when you won the title?

Winning the title of Miss Globe South Texas has entitled me to represent the state of Texas at the National level. On September 22-24, I will be traveling to South Padre Island, Texas where I will be vying for the title of Miss Globe United States. When I first won the title, of Miss Globe South Texas, I was in shock because it was something that I had been working hard for and to know that my hard work and determination paid off was just an incredible feeling. I was also very thankful towards everyone who helped me in preparation for the pageant. Lastly, I was very excited because winning this title meant that I would get to represent South Texas at the National level.

Many misses have said that their dream since a child was to participate in a pageant as prestigious as Miss World (or Miss Universe). Is it your case? And if so, why?

Competing in the prestigious stage of Miss World or Miss Universe would be a dream come true. Ever since I began pageantry it has been a dream of mine to get to represent the United States at such a prestigious pageant. One of the main reasons why I would like to participate in either pageant would be because I would love for other pageant contestants to realize that everything is possible if you set your mind to it. I want other girls to know that regardless of where you come from, no dream is too big to obtain. I want girls to realize that if I could walk such prestigious stages then so can they. Like Zig Ziglar once said “If you can dream it then you can achieve it”.

What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry?

By competing in pageantry, I expect to gain experience. As a pageant contestant, I feel that you never stop learning even if you have been competing in pageants for years. I feel that every pageant that I have competed in has shaped me into the contestant that I am today. I also expect to gain as much community service involvement that I possibly can because to me a true beauty queen should have a desire to help her community as well as wanting to make a difference in the lives of others. Last but not least, from pageants I expect to gain lifelong friendships.

How has competing in pageants shaped you to be the person you are today?

Competing in pageants has shaped me into the person that I am today because I have learned so many things throughout the years. I have learned that being a pageant queen isn’t just about winning a crown, pageants are about making a promise to yourself and to the community. The promise consists of serving the community, staying humble, lending a hand to whomever needs it, and representing your system to the best of your ability. Pageants have also taught me how to be involved in my community, public speaking skills, and interview techniques.

Who is your ideal beauty queen and how has she helped you to evolve as a beauty queen?

It’s difficult to name just one of my ideal beauty queens because there are so many beauty queens that possess such characteristic but if I had to name only one it would be Karla Monje.

Karla Monje has held several prestigious titles such as Miss Texas Belleza Latina 2014, Miss Belleza Latina International 2015, Miss Texas Latina 2015, Miss U.S Latina 2015, and Miss America Latina del Mundo 2015. She has helped me evolve as a beauty queen because she is very humble, kind, and dedicated. She has taught me that everything you want to obtain will only be obtained through hard work and dedication. Mrs. Monje is always willing to help as many people as she possibly can and that energy transmits to others. Her dedication has helped me become a dedicated person as well. She showed me that when you truly dedicate yourself to something then good things will come out of it. Not only is Mrs. Monje my pageant coach, but she has also helped shape me into the pageant queen that I am today. She is truly an incredible role model for girls all over.

What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream of being a queen one day?

For any girl that has the dream of being a beauty queen, I say to you please don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are not adequate to have such a role. If your dream is to be on pageant stages, then go for it! Don’t let anyone or anything get in your way because honestly the experience is unforgettable. Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not good enough, pretty enough, or tall enough because you are beautiful! Sometimes the path won’t be easy but trust me, in the end it’ll all be worth it, like Og Mandino once said “Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough”.

Thanks to the beautiful Juanita for the interview. Pageants News wishes you all the very best for Miss Globe United States 2017 pageant.
