Exclusive Interview With Anna Burdzy : Why Miss Universe Great Britain 2017 Chose To Advocate For Human Rights

She will represent Great Britain at the 2017 Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas. The gorgeous Anna Burdzy is a law graduate and is set to obtain her Masters degree in human rights law. In the future she hopes to work for the prestigious United Nations and open her own charity - "I strongly believe that you have two hands; one to help yourself and one to help others and as my chosen career path is Human Rights Law, I feel it is so important to be kind and make as much of a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves as possible" - she explained.

As Miss Universe she hopes to be able to use her platform to make a change on a global level rather than just in her closer community.

Anna grew up watching Miss Universe as a kid because her mom used to watch it - “I’ve always been aware (about Miss Universe) but I just thought it was an impossible dream like it could never happen to me. I always look up to the other girls but I finally did it”

Did you know ? Great Britain has never won the Miss Universe crown before. The closest it could reach was in the year 2013, when Amy Willerton secured the Top 10 spot at Miss Universe 2013 pageant. This year Anna will try her best to grab the first ever crown of Miss Universe for Great Britain. Check out my interview with her below!

What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the Miss Universe competition? How will you prepare the contest ?

I am hardworking, passionate and determined but above all, I just love meeting new people and learning about their cultures and countries. I think it is important to always be kind as you never know the journey the other person has been on in life - as they say, a smile is the universal language of kindness! I have been preparing for the Miss Universe pageant for a long time now and I'm glad that I will be able to give it my all

Social media seem to play a major role in pageantry nowadays. Do you think this is advantageous to you? Why or why not?

Social media is one of the biggest changes we have seen in our society in the last decade and, as with everything, there are positives and negatives of the role it plays in daily life. It plays a huge role in pageantry as it acts as a forum for millions of people to discuss ideas, share thoughts and photos in an instant. It brings the pageant community closer and allows the fans to get to know us girls a bit better before the pageant begins and follow our journeys to Miss Universe! Its great to feel closer to the fans and I feel privileged to have support from all around the world, and  that is thanks to social media.

How would you describe Great Britain to your fellow contestants?

Great Britain as an island in the north-west of Europe that is like no other! We have great big cities like London where there are always fun things to be doing but we also have incredibly beautiful, green countrysides which are breathtaking - especially in the summer! We have many little picturesque villages, lovely beaches and also huge impressive castles - making sight-seeing in Great Britain very appealing. The British people are so welcoming, and Great Britain is an island of opportunity, multiculturalism and tradition. There is so much history to learn about and it really is captivating and enchanting.

Some people think that beauty pageants like Miss Universe are degrading to women. Convince them that they are wrong.

Miss Universe stands for such incredible values that I also share. Miss Universe is about inspiring confidence in people around the world, because if you are equipped with confidence then you are ready to take on any challenge in life and achieve any goal or dream. This is why it is so important to be confidently beautiful, and why Miss Universe want to encourage others to find this quality within. The pageant is also empowering to women and allows us to celebrate femininity rather than be apologetic for it. Incredibly smart and impressive ladies take part every year and it is wonderful to see women doing well, and women supporting women! Above all, it is fun and puts a smile on everyones face :)

What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream of being a queen one day?

I would tell every girl to go for what she dreams of doing! It took me three attempts at the Miss Universe Great Britain crown before I won the prestigious title and I am so glad that I never gave up. Anything worth having, doesn't come easily but if you really want it then you should carry on working hard and fighting for your dreams - and that applies to any goals you may have. Always stay true to yourself and be confident to be who you are.

Who is your ideal beauty queen and how has she helped you to evolve as a beauty queen?

I draw inspiration from every Queen as they all have a unique quality that makes them special. I love watching their journeys and they inspire all of us to be the best version of ourselves!
