Maxine Medina was crowned Binibining Pilipinas 2016 on April 17, 2016 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City. Medina will have the opportunity to represent the Philippines at Miss Universe 2016. Filipinos are hoping that Wurtzbach’s successor will be the fourth Filipino to win Miss Universe.
The Philippines, through BPCI, has produced three Miss Universe winners (Gloria Diaz in 1969, Margarita Moran in 1973 and Pia Wurtzbach in 2015) and four Miss International winners (Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979, Lara Quigaman in 2005 and Bea Santiago in 2013).
Who is Maxine Medina ?
Maxine, 25, is the second child of Maximo Guillermo Medina, a former commercial model and a Philippine Airlines flight attendant, and Maria Fe Medina, also a former model and a Metrobank senior bank manager. Max shares the important lessons her parents taught her: “My dad taught me to be strong and independent and to be responsible for every decision I make. I learned from my mom to grab every opportunity that comes along the way and learn from it.”
“Beauty has to come from the inside. You could inspire and make people feel their value and be happy.”
When she was a child she dreamed of becoming an interior designer. Armed with this dream, she took up Interior Design at both De La Salle-College of St. Benilde and the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID) and later graduated.
The new Miss Universe Philippines also works as a model “I started modeling when I was 18 years old. The very first project I did was for a cover of a magazine with my cousin, Glen Peter Perez, who is a professional photographer,” Maxine shares.
The only person I have in mind is God. Whatever I do, wherever I go, I always pray and by talking to him, he always makes me feel calm and my faith keeps me going.
The best advice that she gives to be a beauty queen is to "study hard and be a righteous person all the time. Always remember that you are making your own history and your own victory."
