1995 Miss Universe Chelsi Smith will join the “2016 MISS PERÚ NATIONAL PAGEANT” judging panel, it was was announced by Jessica Newton, President of Grupo d’Elite, parent company of the Miss Perú organization.
“I am thrilled to be joining an esteemed group of panelists for the crowing of the 2016 MISS PERÚ UNIVERSE,” said Smith. “All of the extraordinary Peruvian women competing in this year’s competition will be walking in the footsteps of some of the MISS UNIVERSE® organization’s greatest title holders including one of Perú’s favorite daughters, Gladys Zender.”
As previously announced, the competition will be telecast in Peru on Panaméricana TV on Saturday, April 23, 2016 with performances by Lil Silvio and El Vega. The outgoing 2015 Miss Perú Universe, Laura Spoya, will pass the crown to her successor who will go on to represent Perú at the “2016 MISS UNIVERSE®” pageant.
Laura Spoya was crowned Miss Peru 2015 at the finals of the Miss Peru pageant held on June 2, 2015. She went on to represent Peru at Miss Universe 2015, held on December 20, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. She went unplaced in the competition despite being cited as one of the favorites for the title.
As one of the only bi-racial woman to win the pageant world’s triple crown: Miss Texas, Miss USA, and Miss Universe, Chelsi Smith embarked on a successful career in the entertainment industry having signed with Music World/Columbia/Sony Music records in 1999. Since retiring her crown, Chelsi continues to set the bar for intelligent and enlightened women around the world by shedding light on causes close to her heart.
