Rica Charleston's Journey To The Miss Nevada USA Pageant : A Story Of Perseverance

Success doesn’t come easily to some, but it comes for sure to those who never give up. The beautiful Rica Charleston, who'll be competing for the crown of Miss Nevada USA 2018, was told at a young age that she would never accomplish anything - "I've literally had people laugh in my face, but it didn't stop me. That became my fuel to strive and now I am a business owner and about to interview for Miss Nevada USA. I think if you have a dream take it one step higher and lets see how far you can really go" - she explained.

Rica would like to encourage every young woman and man to leave their mark, strive for their wildest dreams and never stop until they reach their biggest goals. Through many aspects in life as well as pageantry she wants to influence them to be the best version of themselves - "This pageant isn't just for me; it is for every young woman and man that have been told that they were less."

If she wins the crown Rica will have the opportunity to represent the state of Nevada at Miss USA 2018. While Nevada did well in the early years of the Miss USA pageant, they only placed once from 1987 to 2000. This streak was broken by Gina Giacinto's finalist placing in Miss USA 2001.

Many Miss Nevada USA titleholders previously competed in the Miss Teen USA and Miss America pageants. Six titleholders previously held the Miss Nevada Teen USA title and three held the Miss Nevada Crown in the Miss America Pageant. Nia Sanchez of Las Vegas became the first Miss USA ever from the state of Nevada when she was crowned Miss USA 2014.

Here we bring you the untold facts about Rica’s life and also her ideas, objectives and opinions… Have a look!

You will compete at the Miss Nevada USA Pageant, how will you prepare the contest ?

The same way I compete for any other event, the same way I prepared for Cheer Worlds is the same way, I prepare for this I treat Miss Nevada USA like its the Miss Universe stage.

What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the competition?

Everything about me is unique, so what do I not bring. I feel that I hold a special power about me and a certain "spiciness" that will make you attach to my personality.

Tell me something about yourself and your work. What do you actually do, and have done in the past?

I am a cheer choreographer, I travel around the country teaching 8-count after 8-count and teaching camps  to thousands of young women and men how to be leaders through cheer, plus I get to teach really cool and dangerous acrobatics and that is always a plus side.

Many misses have said that their dream since a child was to participate in a pageant as prestigious as Miss World (or Miss Universe). It this your case ? And if so, why ?

I can't lie, yes I was the little girl that watched pageants on TV, but my true dream was to dance at Juilliard. I believe you can have more dream than one.

Social media seem to play a major role in pageantry nowadays. Do you think this is advantageous to you? Why or why not?

It is an advantage, if used properly, titleholders can now show their community efforts and how they plan to use their platform. I received a degree in communications so I think that there are many pros and of course cons to social media, but as a title holder you can reach so many different audiences that you never had the chance to reach before.
