2018 Miss Texas Teen USA Candidate Gina Marie Campagna Wants To Lead People To Believe In Themselves

When it comes to becoming successful and achieving our big goals, it is important that we believe in ourselves. But it’s also important that we help others believes in themselves, too . Helping others believe in and achieve their goal can accelerate the manifesting of our own.

As Theodore Roosevelt said, “Believe you can, and you are halfway there.” The gorgeous Gina Marie Campagna, who'll be competing for the crown of Miss Texas Teen USA in a few days, considers her style of leading however, as leading others through encouragement. She wants to be a light to everyone and encourages everyone she meets to be confidently beautiful in their own skim and to go for their wildest dreams - "I strive to lead by example and the way I plan to encourage others to pursue their dreams is by living a confidently beautiful lifestyle and accomplishing my dreams as well" - she explained.

Gina has worked with many children in an effort to make a difference in her community. She has started a chapter of the organization Girls of Greatness in her hometown of Midland, Texas. Girls of Greatness is a program which truly teaches girls the meaning of being confidently beautiful on the inside and out. Through this program, Gina teaches middle school girls about celebrating their unique beauty on the inside through group talks about confidence and self esteem.

She also teaches them about beauty on the outside by giving different makeup tips to help them feel their best on the outside as well - "I believe that a person must feel confident on the inside and out to achieve their dreams, and once they love who they are, they can be unstoppable!"

I had the opportunity to interview Gina on her preparation for the Miss Texas Teen USA Contest. Did you know ? Texas is one of the most successful states across all twenty-seven years of competition at Miss Teen USA. They have had seventeen semi-finalists, three more than any other state. They have won the crown three times, in 1996 when Christie Lee Woods took the title (Woods later went on to star in The Amazing Race 5) and 15 years later in 2011 when Danielle Doty won. Karlie Hay became the third Texan entrant to win the crown in 2016

You will compete at the Miss Texas Teen USA Pageant, how will you prepare the contest ? What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the competition?

I am so honored to compete at Miss Texas Teen USA this year! This is my third time back competing, and every year I learn something new to help me prepare better for the next year. Of course, this year in preparing for the pageant I follow a workout routine, make healthier eating choices, and work on my modeling skills. But, my main focus in preparing this year is keeping a positive attitude! I’ve learned that by keeping a positive mindset, I can accomplish and succeed in so much more during my pageant preparation than I would if I dwelled on any doubtful or negative thoughts.

What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants?

I had a couple of friends who competed in pageants and after hearing their amazing pageant experiences, I knew I had to try one! I entered my first pageant and right from the start I was hooked! I always had a hidden desire to compete in pageants, but once I stepped on the stage I knew that was where I belonged. I am so grateful for everyone I have met through pageants and the numerous opportunities I’ve been granted because of them. They are truly life changing.

What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry?

I have already gained so much because of competing in pageants. Confidence, determination and pushing myself to be the best that I can be are just a few things that I have picked up during my pageant journey. After my days in pageants are over, I expect to gain a lot of satisfaction in looking back on not only how much I have changed as a person, but how many people’s lives I have impacted for the better because of my reign. I want to look back and see a whole new generation of confidently beautiful girls who are working towards their dreams, and I want to be the one who inspired and encouraged them to believe in themselves in order to achieve that.

Many misses have said that their dream since a child was to participate in a pageant as prestigious as Miss World (or Miss Universe). It this your case ? And if so, why ?

Of course it was! I specifically remember watching Nia Sanchez compete as Miss USA in Miss Universe 2014 and I remember thinking that if I was going to compete in pageants, I wanted to go all the way and compete at Miss Universe! From then on, no matter what pageant I compete in, I always try to mentally place myself on the Miss Universe stage and I strive to carry myself in the almost magical way that those women do. Competing at Miss Universe is one of my ultimate dreams!

Social media seem to play a major role in pageantry nowadays. Do you think this is advantageous to you? Why or why not?

Absolutely! Social media is so much fun, but I also realize it people can use it as a destructive device to harm others. I use social media to not only share my life activities and organizations, but also to promote the message of being confidently beautiful as well as other positive messages to impact others in a good way.

Did you face any moment of disappointment with yourself during the pageant journey, and how did you overcome it?

Yes. As I mentioned earlier, this is my third time competing at Miss Texas Teen USA. I competed once when I was 14, a second time when I was 15 and now I am competing at 16 years old. I have not placed into the finals in the two previous times I competed. After not placing the second time, I started thinking that I did not have what it takes to be Miss Texas Teen USA. But, I put a stop to those doubtful thoughts very fast! I realized that this is my dream, and I was going to give it all that I had. Competing in pageants is what I love to do and I have so much purpose as to why I am compete in them. It is not just for me, it is for a greater cause and something bigger than myself. It’s about helping others and making a difference in the world the best way I can. I am grateful for the mistakes I’ve made in pageantry because they have made me into the determined and goal- driven person I am today.

We’ve all seen the stereotypical portrayals of pageant contestants, a la Miss Congeniality, spreading peace, love and beauty throughout the world. How do you think you'll make a difference?

Many people say “go for your dreams” but that can be pretty hard to do when you don’t have the self- confidence or encouragement to propel you along. I can totally relate to that because I went through a time where I did not know where to go in life because I felt like  I could never be as good as the people I admired and looked up to. I was once told that it takes one person to believe in you to change the entire course of your life, and I could not agree with that more. I want to continue being the person who believes in someones dreams even if I am the only one who does. I want to tell people about their intrinsic value, and I want to encourage them to use that to accomplish their dreams.

What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream of being a queen one day?

Go for it 1000%. They will benefit and change your life completely if you continue to work hard at becoming the best titleholder you can be. If anyone is doubting if they have what it takes to compete in pageants, I can assure you that you do! Everyone has a unique story, purpose or essence of beauty that they can contribute to the pageant world. The great news is: the pageant world is a super accepting community always looking for someone who is different- that could be you!

Who is your ideal beauty queen and how has she helped you to evolve as a beauty queen?

I absolutely love Kristen Wolfe and Nia Sanchez (Miss USA 2009 and Miss USA 2014). I have always loved the Bible verse “Be the Light” -Matthew 5:14 and I believe these two women truly resemble someone who is the “light”. They are so positive and inspirational with their words and actions. I have one of Kristen’s devotionals and keep up with her on her blog She Is More. Her words have  helped me tremendously in preparing for Miss Texas Teen USA.

I also keep up with Nia Sanchez on Instagram and her youtube channel. I love the videos she makes and her passion and enthusiasm for life is infectious! They have both taught me that everyone is a queen and should be treated like one, no matter if they wear a crown or not!

Thanks to the beautiful Gina for the interview. Pageants News wishes you all the very best for Miss Texas Teen USA pageant.
