2018 Miss Maine USA Candidate Simonne Pastore Became A Personal Development Coach To Beat Mental Illness

Life coaching is a relatively new service available to people who feel like they need help to make changes in their lives. Motivation enhancement is a key component of many coaches’ repertoire, as they help people to set goals, and then both hold them accountable and cheer them on as the clients make progress towards these goals.

In 2007, when she was 15 years old; Simonne Pastore lost her father to suicide, after suffering from mental illness and PTSD. This is why she decided to become a certified Health and Personal Development Coach. She would like to be the next Miss Maine USA to set a goal for herself to push herself, the way she helps her clients set goals for themselves - "I have a passion for constant growth and development, which I believe pagentry exemplifies" - she said.

Simonne studied at the Institue for Integrative Nutrition in New York City, and iPEC life coaching school in Boston, MA. She helps clients achieve their goals of having a healthy body and mind, naturally. In her spare time she organizes a non-profit community outreach program designed to create mental health awareness in her community. She also hosts a podcast and local radio show called "Out of the Box" centered around health and wellness, personal development, travel and entrepreneurship.

I had the opportunity to interview the beautiful Simonne on her preparation for the upcoming Miss Maine USA Pageant.

Did you know ? Maine is one of the less successful Miss USA states, with only eight placements as of 2012. In 2006, Katee Stearns made the semi-finals, becoming only the fifth woman from Maine and the first since 1977 to make the cut. In 2010, Katie Whittier became the first delegate from Maine to reach the top five, finishing 4th runner up. In 2011, Ashley Marble became Maine's first consecutive placement.

You will compete at the Miss Maine USA Pageant, how will you prepare the contest ? What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the competition?

My preparation for the Miss Maine USA competition is more mental than physical, on the days leading up to the pageant I will be seriously evaluating my contribution to my state if I were to be honored with the title of Miss Maine USA. To be an ambassador for my state on a national level is an incredible honor, and a role that I take very seriously. My background in personal development and health and wellness will help me prepare my mind and body so that I can be the healthiest I can be, to serve and represent my state in the best way.

What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants?

I was inspired to enter into pageantry a couple of years ago when I became a certified Health and Personal Development Coach. I wanted to set a goal for myself to push myself, the way I help my clients set goals for themselves. I have a passion for constant growth and development, which I believe pagentry exemplifies.

What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry?

Through pagentry I hope to grow more in every way, to meet amazing people I otherwise might never meet, to represent my state and country in the best and most upright way possible, and to grow my career as a Health and Personal Development Coach.

We’ve all seen the stereotypical portrayals of pageant contestants, a la Miss Congeniality, spreading peace, love and beauty throughout the world. How do you think you'll make a difference ?

I believe my background in holistic health and personal development, and mental health awareness will help provide a topic of discussion on these matters, create more understanding, and hopefully shed light on certain issues. In my state in particular we have a large opioid addiction epidemic which I hope to, in some way, bring some awareness and resources to.

Did you face any moment of disappointment with yourself during the pageant journey, and how did you overcome it?

I am a firm believer that there is no substitute for experience, and the growth  pagentry offers is irreplaceable. I would never be disappointed with myself during any part of my personal development journey, including in pagentry, I learn from my experiences and can make changes accordingly, without dissapointment.

What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream of being a queen one day?

I would advise any young girl who dreams and aspires to be a beauty queen one day to stay true to themselves! That is something that is much easier said than done and can seem like a very hard thing to do, but everyone has something unique the world needs. Follow your passions, think out side the box, be the best version of yourself possible, and become the best beauty queen/representative for your state and country the world has ever seen!
