Meet Shikye Smith, the first ever Australian to be crowned Miss Galaxy!

Actor, Model, Musician and the first ever Australian to be crowned Miss Galaxy. Shikye Smith is unstoppable. She does not compete with anyone except herself. In life, there will always be pressure: Succeed. Finish by the deadline. Make impossible things possible (usually within 24-48 hours). Many of the same stressors in pageantry are just as familiar in “real” life: Make sure you look the part. Don’t have any questionable social media posts. Grace and elegance, tact and flexibility, win. Be the best.

Of all the outside stressors, the pressure we put on yourself is enemy number one. We push ourselves so hard, and half of the time we call it “motivation” or “self courage.” But  Shikye Smith's goal is to inspire youth to be brave enough to DREAM BIG! As a perfectionnist she always put a lot of pressure on herself to be the best that she can be.

So, what can a "pageant girl" do to ensure they put on a successful event, get noticed, and grow from the experience? Read on and discover Miss Galaxy 2017 Shikye Smith's story!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself

I'm a professional singer, dancer & model from Sydney, Australia and the first ever Australian to be crowned Miss Galaxy. I love being on stage and sharing my love of performing with those around me. I'm extremely passionate about inspiring youth to be brave enough to DREAM BIG & never let fear stop you from achieving your goals.

You won the title of Miss Galaxy, what does this entail ?

Throughout my year of reign I have volunteered for various charities & organisations, been a guest speaker at local schools & events, spreading my message of DREAM BIG and overall I have aimed to inspire others to be the best version of themselves and remind them that it doesn't matter where you come from, what your background is, if you have a goal & have passion & determination then you can turn that goal into a reality.

What is your typical day as Miss Galaxy ?

I don't think there is a "typical day" I like changing it up, attending different kinds of events and reaching various demographics. That's the best part, I get to meet so many new people from various walks of life & share my story & journey with them.

Did you plan to compete in another pageant in the future ?

Never say never but the Galaxy system holds a special place in my heart. The system affords young women from all backgrounds, sizes & nationalities to truly become the best versions of themselves. It's such an inclusive and supportive system and I'm blessed to have met so wonderful people during my journey.

What has been the biggest challenge in your reign?

I'm a perfectionist. I always want to do and give my best. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be the best that I can be so I'm constantly looking for ways to do more with my title. I have to remind myself that every titleholder brings something different and no two Queens' journeys are the same, that's what makes it so exciting!

Have you had any Embarrassing moments in your reign?

I don't want to jinx myself, but so far so good. I'm a very clumsy person though so I'm always tripping over or banging into doorways!

What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream of being a queen one day?

Never give up on your dream! Remember that everything happens for a reason and if things don't go as planned, learn from that experience. At the end of the day only one girl will walk away with the crown but we are all QUEENS!

Thanks to the beautiful Shikye Smith for the interview. Your story and your way of dealing with all the challenges are worth appreciating!
