American Beauty Queen Sunny Day wants to educate our younger generations on the importance of protecting our planet

She competed in her first pageant in 2013 and has been competing every year since. Sunny Day is working hard to use her voice to educate our younger generations on the importance of protecting and preserving our planet. She won the title of Miss Midwest Earth 2017 but she also competed in the Miss America Organization and for Miss Oklahoma USA.

This year will be her first time competing within the Miss Earth Org. and first time on a national stage.

Lets know a little more about the beautiful Sunny through this interview!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Sunny Day, I am 21 years young and am from the great state of Oklahoma! I was raised by my beautiful mother, in a single parent household while my father was battling addiction. I am the oldest of four younger siblings who inspire me every day to be the best version of myself. I am the first of my family to attend college, I currently am a senior at The University of Oklahoma studying Communications and Enterprise Studies. I enjoy singing, reading, doing photoshoots, music festivals, and traveling. Because of the circumstances that I have experienced, I believe in the strength of women, the ability to turn your life around for the better, and that through persistence and determination, anything can be achieved.

You won the title of Miss Midwest Earth, what does this entail?

This past January I was appointed the honorary title of Miss Midwest Earth. Miss Midwest Earth is a regional title, meaning that I am representing the entire Midwest region of the United States of America. One of my favorite parts of being a regional titleholder is that I can use my voice and speak on behalf of the Miss Earth Organization in more than one state. Being Miss Midwest Earth allows me to have a platform to use my voice for the greater good, to educate our younger generations on the importance of protecting and preserving our planet, to inspire people to follow their dreams no matter where they come from and who they are, and to encourage everyone to be kind and accepting of those we share our planet with.

Who is your ideal beauty queen and how has she helped you to evolve as a beauty queen?

Without a doubt, Olivia Jordan, Miss USA 2015. I competed with Olivia the year she was crowned Miss Oklahoma USA, went on to be the first Oklahoma gal to take the Miss USA crown, and eventually on to take 2RU at Miss Universe.

Olivia is the epitome of an empowered woman who empowers women, and to me, that is what it takes to be a titleholder.

I remember the very first interaction I had with Olivia, it was at lunch before rehearsals the first day of the competition. Olivia, some of the other contestants, and I were sitting at the lunch table eating, getting to know one another, and following one another’s social media accounts. Olivia turned to me after looking at my Instagram and showed me a photo that I had posted earlier that year of me with no makeup on followed by a very heavy and open caption, and she told me that my ability to be honest, raw, and myself would one day inspire others and since that day, I believed in the power of my voice.

Olivia’s ability to make people believe in themselves, accept themselves, and drive them to want to make a difference is something that she not only did for me, but that I watched her do throughout her reign on a state level, national level, and to this day in her daily life.

I am forever proud of the way Olivia represented our home state, Oklahoma at Miss USA and Miss Universe and forever thankful because she gave me the courage and drive to pursue my dreams!

What do you think is the most important quality every beauty queen should possess and why?

Ultimately, going into a pageant, a woman should know what the organization in which she is competing in capitalizes. That being said, one thing that any pageant queen should apply to not only the organization but their lives in general is the genuine passion to be the change they wish to see in the world.

How are you gearing yourself up for the environmental programs introduced under Miss Earth pageant?

The Miss Earth Organization strongly encourages all their ambassadors to be both involved and educated on preserving our beautiful planet. I am a member of the on-campus organization, “Our Earth” that cleans up our campus. Also, just this past February, I became an official member of the Citizens Climate Lobby where I sit in on weekly conference calls with other members and discuss how we can be an activist for our planet in our town, state, and country. Throughout my reign, I have also spent a great amount of time visiting schools educating our youth on how they can make simples changes in their daily lives that will result in a safer, cleaner, and more beautiful environment for all. All this aside, I spend a certain number of hours every week self-educating myself on environmental issues such as climate change and water conservation in hopes to be a well-rounded delegate as I compete to be the next American ambassador for the Miss Earth Organization.

What message would you like to give to the pageant enthusiasts reading this interview?

The pageant world and my experience in it has completely shifted my life for the better. I am stronger, more empowered, more educated, and more determined than ever to go confidently in the direction of my dreams. I am so thrilled to stand proudly on the Miss Earth United States stage as it will be my first time to compete on the national level.
