Can you introduce yourself?
I am Vinoma Collom-Hawcroft and I was born and brought up in Sri Lanka. I came to the UK after marrying my handsome beloved husband Robert Hawcroft and married for 10 years now. We have 3 beautiful children under 6. I love traveling to different countries and I studied law and drama and theater. I was a social worker in my area in Sri Lanka and I was helping my father for his political career since I was very young.
Your pageant platforms are : World peace for children; Support and help autistic children and Support and help Traumatic Brain Injured children especially in the poor countries. Can you tell me more about it ?
I want to bring the peace to children on this Earth and I also want help and support autistic Children and brain damaged children in the poor countries. These 3 platforms close to my heart. I was a victim of the civil war in Sri Lanka. I lived with fear and danger during my childhood. I did not have any future hopes during my young age. When I left to school in the morning then I wasn't sure that I would comeback home in the late afternoon because of terrorists bomb attacks in Colombo. I had to travel 3 hours both ways from my home to school because of traffic. The public transport was very slow. I remember my father he came to the bus stop near my house most of the afternoons to see that I came home safe. Those days we did not have mobile phones to contact my family soon if something happened to me on the way home. However people are nice and helpful. They always take care of each other to help. I think its part of being a Buddhist country. I do not like any other child to have the same fearful childhood like mine. Its not fair for children. After the recent attack in Westminster London (believed to be a terrorist's attack at the beginning) I thought 'oh God my children, They are going to have the same childhood like me' Because of this reason I changed my mind and I want to bring World Peace for children.
My other platforms. As a mother of an Autistic child I know how much support they need. Thankfully the NHS and local council provide him, his support and his educational needs. I was researching past few years about Autism as I want to support much more to my son and other children around the world. In my childhood I had a cousin who was autistic but my relatives did not understand his problem. However they tried to look after him well. Luckily he had been to school. When I was little, my cousin, he did not like me at all as he used to hit me and scratched me a lot. I still have a scratch mark on my face near my nose, which he has caused when I was 2-3 years old. Some people thought he had some mental issues and not right to be in the society. Now I understand it was wrong, The Autistic children are the most important treasures in the society. If we give the right support and education then they will be useful to the society unlike neglecting and making them criminals in the society.
About Children with TBI, As I know and believe that they are always with us and they need help and support to live. They also need a way to communicate with us. Because their brains are working and want to communicate with us. I have read the stories and books of survivors specially Martin Pistorious and Kelly Bouldin Darmofal. I remember my childhood that I had a great-grand mother who had a stroke and how she survived with using Sri Lankan Ayurvedic medicine. Its amazing I spent my time with her reading books with her, played card games and board games with her to keep her happy and accompany during her recovering time.

For you, what constitutes true beauty ?
Honest smile, smart brain, instant thinking, voice, kind and helpful. If you have a combination of these qualities then you will be beautiful everyday.
What one word best describe you?
Fighter (I mean I do not like to give up things in my life) Some people say that beauty pageants are degrading to women, same with fashion magazines.
How can you convince them that they’re wrong? I do not think so as I am not very slim or tall but I have my own personality to get other people's attention. I can prove that they are wrong.
What is your opinion about pageants that are being held worldwide for kids (-18 year old) ? Do you support these kind of pageants or are you against them? Please explain
Over 14 years old events are OK but I do not accept pre-teen pageants due to my personal opinions. I believe young girls should focus on their education and quality time as a child. Because education is the very important part in their life, its the key to everything in your life just 10 years later. For 16 years age girls, I believe its OK because it is good focus and to compete in something like that and be useful in the society, I believe it can change and protect and prevent her from bad (I believe below examples are bad thing for very young girls) for example she has something to focus on unlike thinking sex an drugs and night clubbing or becoming a teenage mother. I have 6 year old beautiful daughter and I always explain her the right and wrong of life and do not push her to do this and that but show her the childhood life experience is very important other than thinking about a beauty pageant in her age.
Where do we hope to see you In the next 10 years?
I like you to see me as a very strong woman who helps to protect children' rights and their peace. I love to show the world the importance of the females if you have a sister or daughter.
What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry?
This is something I missed 17 years ago. My father was very strict and he did not let me to compete to a pageant at the very first place in Sri Lanka. He showed me the consequences if I competed. I believe now he was right. I was young and not much life expedience but I now mature and confident but I want to bring the people's attention on to the world peace as the war is breaking children's peace and all the rights to be a child. No peace, no sleep, hunger, sad moments, lost family members, disability, no education and becoming child soldiers etc etc.
