"Words can't describe what the Miss America Organization has done for me in the past year"

Kelly will have the opportunity to represent her state at Miss America 2017 later this year. The 2017 Miss America Pageant will be held at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Sunday, September 11, 2016.

The event will be broadcast by ABC in the United States, the first in the network’s newest agreement to carry the pageant until 2019, with Dick Clark Productions producing the ceremony. Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell (Miss Georgia 2015) is scheduled to crown her successor at the end of the event.

No contestant from Iowa has ever won the national Miss America title although two Miss Iowas have been named First Runner Up. Cheryl Browne, Miss Iowa 1970, competed in the Miss America 1971 pageant as the first African American contestant.
