Miss Maine 2016 is Marybeth Noonan

Marybeth Noonan, 20, was crowned Miss Maine 2016 on April 23 at Catherine McAuley High School in Portland, Maine. She became the first woman in the Miss America class of 2017. "Can't believe we already have our first 2016 state titleholder!" tweeted Betty Cantrell, the reigning Miss America.

Maine has been represented in the Miss America pageant since 1937, although the state has never produced a winner.

The 2017 Miss America Pageant will be held at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Sunday, September 11, 2016. The event will be broadcast by ABC in the United States, the first in the network's newest agreement to carry the pageant until 2019, with Dick Clark Productions producing the ceremony. Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell (Miss Georgia 2015) is scheduled to crown her successor at the end of the event.

Marybeth attends Lyndon State College. She was first runner-up at Miss Maine 2015. “It’s going to be the best of my life, and I already know that,” she said. During the pageant she also won the overall talent and swimsuit awards, when she heard hear name announced as the new Miss Maine, a flood of emotion took over.

Marybeth Noonan has been stereotyped as a “Pageant Girl” most of her life. She started competing in Miss Maine Pageants when she was in middle school. She grew up loving musicals and participating in theater but never thought about entering a pageant, until the Director of a play she was in suggested she should enter the Miss Young Teen Maine pageant in 2008.
