“Going into the competition this year I didn’t feel nervous,” she said. “I just felt comfortable, I had prepared and done everything that I could to get to this point in my life. It’s really in God’s hands, so I’m so very blessed.” she said after her crowning.
Jeanné Kapela is the 71st person to hold the title of Miss Hawaii. She will have a few months to prepare for Miss America 2016, where she hopes to be crowned by the reigning Miss America, Kira Kazantsev. The 89th Miss America pageant will be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 13, 2015.

The reigning Miss Hawaii USA is Emma Wo, she will represent her state at Miss USA 2015 in Baton Rouge on July 12, 2015. Both Pageants are different.
The history of Rhode Island at the Miss America Pageant
Several Miss Hawaii made the TOP at the Miss America Pageant: In 2010 Jalee Fuselier became the second runner-up; in 2009 Raeceen Anuenue Woolford made the TOP 7; in 2008 and 2006 Nicole Fox and Pilialoha Gaison made the TOP 10. Also, they won the crown in 2001 with Angela Perez Baraquio and in 1990 with Cheryl Akemi Toma.

Angela Perez Baraquio , Miss Hawaii 2000 and Miss America 2001 is the first Asian American, first Filipino American, and first teacher ever to win the Miss America pageant.
