Persian-American Shiva Abadi explains why she's proud of her heritage

Generally Iranians have very high esteem for Zoroastrianism as a faith and regard Zoroastrians as genuinely authentic Iranians who preserved the ancestral faith. It is one of the world's oldest monotheistic religions. Found by the Prophet Zoroaster in ancient Iran approximately 3500 years ago. This religion makes Shiva Abadi proud of being Persian-American - "Zoroastrianism believes in three things: Good thoughts, good words and good deeds. This is how I was raised and still practice to be the best version of myself through this phrase." she explained.

Shiva Abadi, who'll be competing in Miss California USA later this year, graduated from the University of California-San Francisco at the age of 25 with her Masters of Science in Dental Hygiene. She has been practicing Dental Hygiene for the past 5 years in clinical, advocacy, volunteer, and educational setting. As an educator for Waterpik, she gives continuing education units to Dentists, Registered Dental Hygienist, and Registered Dental Assistants. She practices Dental Hygiene 4 days a week at a state of the art dental office in San Diego and enjoys preventing diseases, improving oral health, educating and connecting with her patients.

In her spare time she loves hiking, camping, swimming, playing the piano and taking her motorcycle or manual car out for a ride in the canyons.

What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants?

This is an opportunity that kept arising when I was 13 years old till the age of 20. My parents had told me to stay focused in school and that is exactly what I did. I graduated with my Bachelors in Dental Hygiene at the age of 22 and my Masters at the age of 25. Beauty pageants have always been one of my dreams to fulfill and I am so proud of myself for having the courage to go through this new journey.

We’ve all seen the stereotypical portrayals of pageant contestants, a la Miss Congeniality, spreading peace, love and beauty throughout the world. How do you think you'll make a difference?

I'll make a difference by sharing my compassion for the world, educating others on how important their oral health is for their overall well-being, show how imperative it is to volunteer to organizations you are passionate about, and guide future generations in the path of kindness for one another.
