Miss Texas USA Candidate Chelsea Desireé Peňa has advice for pageant newbies

She will represent the Rio Grande Valle at the Miss Texas USA Pageant in one week. The amazing Chelsea Desireé Peňa has some advice for aspiring beauty queens. She challenges everyone to set goals, work hard, have faith and achieve them. Even if you are a pageant veteran or a first-timer in beauty contests, you can stand out as long as you believe in yourself. Chelsea will be on the Miss Texas USA stage for the third time this year "I remember telling my mother what an honor it would be to even be a contestant.I never thought I would be one of the many competing for a State title, but dreams do come true & opportunity chases you when you least expect it.  I was raised on a single parent income where making the best out of any circumstance was the only way to get by." she explained

Chelsea graduated last year from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitative Services. She recently began working as a non-custodial parent counselor and she deals with court mandated cases in which the non-custodial parent is either unemployed, underemployed and behind on their child support payments. Her goal as their counselor is to help them obtain self-sufficient wages.

Chelsea's mother enrolled her in dance classes at the age of five. She continued dancing all through High School and the majority of her years while she was attending the university.

I had the opportunity to recently interview her. Chelsea's dedication and hard work towards her goals will surely take her long on the road of victory!

Congratulations on being a finalist of Miss Texas USA. How do you feel?

I feel incredibly grateful to be competing for Miss Texas USA. I remember about 2 years ago I competed for a city title hoping it would take me to the State level, the night before the pageant I told my mom, “I hope one day I can be a contestant at Miss Texas USA!” I did not win the title however two months later I was given the opportunity to be a contestant at Miss Texas USA 2015 under the direction of Debi Lou Productions. My second time competing was in 2016, and I was fortunate enough to have placed in the top 17 out of 103 contestants.

I strongly believe God sends us what we need at the best timing. I will be on the Miss Texas USA stage for the third time this year. It is a blessing to be representing the Rio Grande Valley. Texas is filled with some of the most beautiful and intelligent young women, and I’m honored to be a part of it.

What qualities a woman have to represent a whole nation?

A woman representing the nation should poses self-discipline, compassion, great work ethic and humility. I feel a great representation of a woman today should be appreciative of her background and motivated about what the future can hold for not only herself but others as well.

What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants?

I did not grow up doing pageants, I have been dancing my entire life. As a young girl I kept up with the dance world along with Miss USA and Miss Universe. My perceptive on pageants was this glamorous dream, I saw these gorgeous women who not only pursued their education and career, but they would give so much of their time and heart to others. I feel we should never stop learning from those around us and continue to grow into the best version of ourselves. Pageants not only allowed me to become self-disciplined and confident but it also taught me how to feel comfortable in speaking to others. A short conversation or even a small act of kindness can truly have the greatest impact on anyone you meet.
