Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was crowned Miss South Africa 2016 on Saturday 19 March 2016 at the Carnival City´s Big Top Arena. She is expected to compete in both the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants this year, as long as both events are not held simultaneously.
The national pageant was televised on M-Net (DStv Channel 101) and Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) from 17h00 to 19h00.

Kunene is an Honours student at Wits University, hailing from Mkhondo, Mpumalanga. Her idea behind joining the Miss South Africa 2016 pageant was to help others rise above their circumstances, to stop people from defining themselves by where they come from or what they do.
“I am inspired by the women the Miss SA brand has produced in the last half century: selfless woman who use the opportunities afforded them to not only elevate themselves, but to be of help to others, to serve.” said Ntandoyenkosi Kunene.
Kuene succeeds Liesl Laurie, Miss South Africa 2015. Laurie has participated in the Miss World 2015 in Sanya, China, as one of 114 contestants. She was one of the Top 10 finalists and became the Continental Queen of Africa, for being the contestant, who was placed the highest of all the African contestant
