You will compete at the Miss Massachusetts USA Pageant, how will you prepare the contest ? What unique characteristics would you say you bring to the competition?
Preparing for any pageant is a lot of work, aside from school and other jobs. With this being my first pageant, I have done countless amounts of research, working with makeup artists, even participating in runway shows to practice walking in my heels. I have been surrounding my self with positive supports, continuing eating healthy & staying active, and finding gowns/swimsuits/outfits that define me as a person. I am very dedicated and ambitious. Being dedicated, especially in a competition, is a great trait to have and it will definitely help me win Miss Massachusetts USA.
What inspired you to walk on the course of beauty pageants?
My confidence! As a child, one of my dreams was to be a model. I have tried all my life when it came down to being signed. This year is my year of accomplishments and after being signed, I thought to myself that this is only the beginning. Being in a pageant was something I wanted to do for a very long time. After gaining so much confidence in myself over the past few years, I knew this was something that would help me even more. I want to show other girls that if I can do it, then they are able to be the queens they have always dreamed of!
What do you expect to gain by competing in pageantry?
Competing in Miss Massachusetts USA will help me gain great confidence, positive experience, and friendships. No matter what the outcome is, pageantry will always be something to benefit out of.
Tell me something about yourself and your work. What do you actually do, and have done in the past?
I was born and raised in Boston, MA. My parents are from the Caribbean (Haiti) and I have had ancestors in the Middle East (Lebanon). I attend Bridgewater State University for Biology and after I receive my degree in December, I Iook forward to getting my Graduate degree in Forensics.
Many misses have said that their dream since a child was to participate in a pageant as prestigious as Miss World (or Miss Universe). It this your case ? And if so, why ?
As a child, I had so many dreams that I wanted to pursue but I was very shy. I was afraid to put myself out there, talk to people, and take criticism. I was a girl who had an excessive amount of great ideas and plans for myself, including pageantry. As I grew older, I have met many confident girls, traveled, and became a teacher. All of these factors have turned me into this confident, outgoing women with so many goals.
Social media seem to play a major role in pageantry nowadays. Do you think this is advantageous to you? Why or why not?
Social media is a wonderful and beneficial way to put yourself out into the world and meet new people. Social media has helped me come out of my shell. Social media is advantageous when it comes to pageantry because you are promoting yourself online and at the same time you are gaining a positive support system. It is a great feeling to know you have people from all over the world supporting you.
Did you face any moment of disappointment with yourself during the pageant journey, and how did you overcome it?
Since this is my first pageant, I have not faced any large disappointments that I could not overcome. Of course, pageantry is very stressful, but I took a breath, and thought to myself “this is what little Patricia has wanted to do all her life, make her proud.” That has helped me push myself to the best I could be.
What would you advise any young girl out there who has a dream of being a queen one day?
Do not let anyone stop you from following your dreams, including yourself! Always Be confident and fight for your goals because one day you could be Miss Universe! Every girl is a queen/princess in their own way and that is what makes them unique. Sometimes I wish i can go back in time and tell myself this, but being the shy girl that I was in the past, has made me into a strong woman today.
Who is your ideal beauty queen and how has she helped you to evolve as a beauty queen?
My mother has made me the confident woman that I am today, and I could never thank her enough for that! She is ultimately my number one supporter. She is beautiful inside and out. Winning this pageant will show her that everything that she has taught me while growing up, has benefited me in ways that I have dreamed of.
Thanks to the beautiful Patricia St Martin for the interview. Pageants News wishes you all the very best for Miss Massachusetts USA pageant.
