Twenty-six year old and 5 ft. 6.5 in (1.69 m) Mary Jean Lastimosa was crowned on Sunday, March 30th at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as the new representative of the Asian country for the next edition of Miss Universe. The North Cotabato beauty competed against other 39 contestants vying for the most coveted crown of the Philippines.
As a matter of fact, this is her third attempt for the crown as she took part on the 2011 (2nd finalist) and 2012 (Top 12) editions consecutively.
Mary Jean (also known as MJ) after being crowned, she conceded an interview for the radio were she said: “It pays to work hard and believe in yourself to achieve your goals.”
Then she added: “This is what I have in mind most of the time, I never stopped believing that I can make it.”
The special guest of the evening was Gabriela Isler, Miss Universe 2013, who was invited to judge the Final and do social working with the victims of the Yolanda typhoon that took away many lives and homes by the time of last year’s Miss Universe.
