Katie George, from Louisville, was crowned Miss Kentucky USA 2015 in January 2015 at the Ursuline Arts Center. Seventeen contestants from several Kentucky counties competed at the Pageant.
It was her first pageant. Katie will represent her state at Miss USA 2015 in Baton Rouge on July 12, 2015. Nia Sanchez, Miss USA 2014 will crown her successor at the end of the event.

She developed a passion for sports and has always dreamed of being a sports broadcaster. In high school, she played for a nationally recognized volleyball program, which won two state championships and catapulted her collegiate career as an NCAA Division I athlete.
Katie developed a pulmonary embolism due to a blood clotting disorder, casting doubt on her athletic future. With perseverance, she was able to play her senior year. Her comeback quickly became a national story as she became the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year and Prep Volleyball’s National Player of the Year.
“I can’t tell you what just happened to me. I’ve never been in a pageant before and I’ve never worn a crown, but this is a pretty amazing feeling,” she said. “So I am excited to represent the Commonwealth of Kentucky.” the beauty queen said
Breaking stereotypes? She’ll do that! Katie George is out to prove that the skinned knees, muscular arms and healthy-sized appetite of an athlete can be beautiful.
“I think today in society, people pigeonhole you into a position or person they think you should be: ‘Well, she’s a volleyball player — she’s a jock,'” George said.
